Retired clergy, past Executive Secretary of BC Conference, past member of the GC Exec.
Deb Bowman, a longtime leader within the United Church of Canada, has as her focus “Piazza Theology” which seeks to understand the relationship that exists among beauty, the arts, and the church, and how this relationship gives witness to wonder and the ineffable power that holds us in love, while raising awareness.
Piazza Theology is a way of understanding how a community is formed and maintained, through the deepening of relationships. Here, local faith communities offer themselves as open spaces, gracious, hospitable, and engaged in the world.
Deb will help us explore how we might use our buildings in ways that welcome all, and where people of all ages are able to enter and rest a little, be received and welcomed and restored; and where we form partnerships and alliances with those we encounter and together we continue our efforts to change the world. Our buildings and our spaces thus become a manifestation of our purpose as faith communities – organised around God’s dreams for our neighbourhoods.
When we make that change, we engage our own visions of serving God in the world.
